Cyber Security in the Public Sector

Cybercrime is accelerating at an unprecedented pace

The global costs of Cyber Crime are predicted to surge from $10 trillion in 2025 to $13.82 trillion by 2028*. Closer to home, a GOV.UK report indicated that 43% of UK businesses and 30% of charities experienced a cyber security breach in the past 12 months, with phishing being the most common threat.

While overall rates for micro-businesses saw a decrease, high-income charities and medium to large businesses continued to report high rates of breaches. The GOV.UK report also noted that the average cost for a disruptive breach was approximately £4,960 for medium and large businesses - a significant financial cost for any organisation to absorb.

In the public sector this is a cost that no local authority wants to be forced to find. Council budgets face increasing pressure from inflation, rising energy costs and higher National Living Wage demands and alongside growing needs, reliable online services are more critical than ever.

Carefully designed for local authorities, this session provides support and resources to help local government organisations improve their cyber defenses and response strategies as well as offering a glimpse into the latest trends and their implications, revealing how organisations can prepare for emerging threats and ensure resilience against an increasingly sophisticated cybercrime ecosystem.
